Disc Golf is similar to traditional golf with the object of the game being to complete each hole in as few shots as possible. With disc golf you throw a flying disc or Frisbee® rather than hit a
ball, and to complete a hole you have to land the disc in an elevated metal basket. Wherever your disc lands, that’s where you make your next throw or “play your next shot”.
Throwing a golf disc is quite similar to throwing and catching a recreational Frisbee®, the discs are small, but relatively heavy, and have a slim aerodynamic profile.
Much of the same terminology as traditional golf is used with disc golf. There is a teeing area where you make your first throw or “drive”; then you make an “approach shot” to the basket; hopefully you are then close enough to make your “putt” for a par.
Participants have a practise session to familiarise themselves with the Discs and how to throw them. Once everyone has got the idea of what to do, the group is taken out onto the course to play a round. The baskets are varying distances from the tees, with varying difficulty. Participants have a score card to record their scores to determine who will win.
Disc Golf can be enjoyed by children, adults and the elderly alike, making it an excellent sport for everyone. It’s easy to play at a basic level, so can be enjoyed from the first throw.
