Zoe contacted Phil, our Event Manager with the requirements of a small conference room and a team building task to develop leadership and communication skills. She wanted to finish off with a fun activity as a reward for the team’s hard work. In addition to the activities, they wanted us to provide breakfast and lunch.
Once Phil had gathered the essential information, he drew up the ideal timetable. Zoe was sent a copy so that she could make any changes before it was finalised.

Sequence of events
The delegates were greeted by our instructors at 9.00am, and handed over to Kieron the Chef. Whilst tucking into bacon sandwiches, we made sure that everybody was signed in and ready to go.
On their arrival, we were told that the meeting room would no longer be needed. As the activities weren’t due to start until 11.00am, the Garlands team quickly set up an activity to keep everyone entertained. The Belron team were thrilled with the archery that Matt, our Instructor, organised and were very impressed with the way we rolled our sleeves up to get everything off to a flying start. Following the archery, everyone was guided to the first of their planned activities for the day.
At lunchtime, a hearty BBQ was served in the lodge and everyone had a chance to relax and discuss the morning’s activities. Not only did our catering team prepare a seriously tasty lunch, as ever they were extremely generous with the portions. Many of the delegates went back for seconds, some even thirds!
After lunch, the Belron team threw themselves into a Bridge Building Challenge. This activity has been devised specifically to strengthen team co-ordination and leadership skills, and everyone really rose to the challenge.
Zoe had asked for something fun and rewarding for her team at the end of the day; and boy did they get it! Quad bike racing always brings out a team’s competitive spirit and as the 125cc Yamaha ‘Grizzlies’ sped round the track, the rest of the group cheered their team mates on before it was their turn to burn some rubber.
At the prize ceremony, medals were awarded to the 3 fastest racers and everyone commented on what a great day they’d had.
We constantly observe and assess our corporate team building sessions in order to give feedback. Constructive criticism helps teams and individuals to spot whatever is inhibiting their development and to understand how to improve in the future.
During the Bridge Building Challenge, we noticed that no one took the initiative to lead the group, which meant that there was no real structure to solving the task. Their instructor, Matt, gave them a chance to overcome this on their own, but after 40 minutes, gave them a nudge in the right direction. They quickly assigned a team leader, which worked wonders for their group work ethic and resulted in a much sturdier construction.
Thanks again, I will definitely recommend Garlands Leisure to any of my friends or colleagues wishing to arrange an activity day.”
