Archery Activity near Birmingham - Safety

Garlands archery activity site is 30 minutes outside Birminghams City Centre making it the perfect choice if staying or living in Birmingham.

When you arrive for the archery session Garlands Archery instructors will take you through the archery safety briefing to make sure you understand what to do and what not to do. This will include some of the following:

1. No one should ever be in front of the bows and arrows at the archery target end when shooting is taking place.

2. When archery is taking place if more than one archer is shooting they will stand side by side, not one ahead of the other.

3. When archery is taking place all the archers will have finished shooting and await the archery instructors instruction before walking towards the archery target to collect arrows.

4. The point of the arrow should not be drawn past the edge of the bow. If an arrow comes right inside the bow it can snap when released, and the shaft can penetrate an archers arm. For the same reason, do not jerk the string back when shooting, for this can also draw the arrow inside the bow.

5. When walking towards the archery target to collect the arrows be careful of any which may be in the grass, the rear end of which could stick into an archers ankle.

6. When pulling your arrows out of the target, stand to the side of the arrow. Place one hand onto the archery target with the fingers either side of the arrow and pull out in a single straight motion. Make sure that nobody is so close to the archery target as to be in danger from the rear end of the arrow striking an archer in the face, because the arrows can come out suddenly.

7. When the archery activity is taking place ever point an arrow at another person. One slip and you may blind or kill someone. Bows by design are weapons, not toys.

8. When the archery activity is bein g carried out do not shoot arrows straight up into the air. You have no idea where it will land or the damage it may do.

These are all commonsense rules really, but it is worth bringing them to your attention so that your archery activity is great fun and without any danger. The archery instructor will take you through the safety briefing before commencing the activity.

Archery at Garlands is easily accessible from Birmingham, Leicester, Coventry, Nottingham, Sutton Coldfield, Derby, Tamworth, Burton Upon Trent, Atherstone, Nuneaton, Coalville, Rugeley, Rugby, Hinckley & Loughborough.
